“Only when there’s improvement, will you feel alive.”

“A person with his own way of thinking” - more and more people see this in Kris Wu. From starting off with films to continuing on with variety programs, he has skilfully executed his roles with a sense of control, clear self-recognition and steadiness. We see a young man who goes along the path set with his own rules, has definite goals, is dedicated to work, and is constantly improving. In several months’ time, Kris Wu will be thirty years old. BAZAAR invited him to share more about his story, and discuss about the past twenty nine years of his life.

In this world, one must be full of vigour

If this is a letter for myself, I think I’ll say: For the past twenty nine years of my life, I’ve lived a life with no regrets. Every task I’ve done, every decision I’ve made, the experiences at at every stage of my life, the honour, the applause, the slander… are all indispensable in my journey of growth.

Regretting is painful, and it’s hard not to regret. I am well aware that I’m lucky in this aspect. But whether or not I regret, in the end, it all depends on myself.

I have a very straightforward attitude when it comes to my life. I will only do the things that I’m sure I want to do, anything else or other less than ideal alternatives simply do not exist in my field of consideration. Only little kids will have endless choices and dilemmas, as an adult one should set their goals at the highest standard and focus on accomplishing it well.

Therefore, there was never a “Plan B” in my life. I would never prepare a second plan for myself. I feel that this trait of mine is typical of Scorpios, as long as I am set on doing something, I will make sure it’s done to the best that I can.

You’d ask, what kind of preparations will I make? Everything. I’ll do every kind of preparation that comes to mind. I will be deep in thought about it every moment, every minute, every second, and even in my dreams. This is the kind of focus and effort I give towards my goals.

Before turning thirty, I have already found a very good balance. I’m getting closer towards it, and my goals in life are clearer.

But the “most important things in life” are not set in stone, and change at every phase. I will set long term goals and short term goals. For example music - music is very important to me, it’s something which I have invested a lot of time in that I love and am passionate about. At the same time it’s my career, my job. So of course, I will continue pursuing it. However, at the same time, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any other parts in my life with new directions and new goals. Like racing, it’s something that I really enjoy now. I will also continue to set new goals for  myself for small things such as this.

I have always strongly believed in setting and following goals, and it is because of them that I am motivated to constantly improve. But thinking about my life as a whole, I’ll refrain from prematurely setting an ultimate aim for certain things. Instead, I will maintain an open mind and allow myself to constantly aim for new goals. Also, at any point in time I will not allow myself to become someone without any goals.

Persistently setting goals for yourself and ceaselessly moving forth is the way one can continue to live youthfully and enthusiastically. I think that this is also a good way to maintain a positive mindset. Only when there’s improvement, will you feel alive. Otherwise, there may not be much motivation in your life, and it could become very dim.

Since we are in this world, let’s live this life with vigour! This has always been my attitude towards life.

Amidst all the recognition from others, your inner voice is what matters the most.

You have to take control of your life

As one gets older, they will gradually realise that although judgements from others may affect a person externally or mentally, this is merely the icing on the cake.

When you work hard, you will receive honour and recognition. But amidst all the recognition from others, your inner voice is what matters the most. Whether you believe the things you do are meaningful or not, whether through doing them you can obtain value, it’s your opinion that far outweighs other matters.

So I feel that for many situations, regardless of the outcome, regardless of how much honour and success it brings to you, what’s even more important is whether you have enjoyed the process or not.

To me, music is a very good way of expressing myself and allows me to make a mark in history. It allows me to express certain things that cannot be put into words, which can invoke an emotional response from the listener. Listeners who resonate to the song will be drawn towards it, and as a result of our shared similar experiences, bring about “us”.

Perhaps one day I’ll get old, or not be in this world anymore, but throughout my whole life, all the music I’ve made will remain, and will still continue to reach people, whether they’re still young or already aging. This is really meaningful and important to me. This is a joy that I have found in music, it’s a motivation that will spur me on to continue to improve in this area.

Furthermore, you guys will be able to see a very clear storyline and path of growth in my works, which includes my passion towards hip hop now, as well as my love for traditional Chinese style. As I move forth in life, I continue to incorporate my observations and thoughts [into my music] progressively. When you guys look back on my works, you’ll be able to find the answers in them.

My love for music has led me to be deeply immersed in related industries as well. Why do I like fashion? It’s because fashion is closely linked to music. When I like one industry, I’ll pick up all the skills that I can that are possibly linked to it. From singing to dancing, acting, fashion, producing music, writing lyrics, and even taking up directing roles at times. I hope that I can pick up all sorts of skills that are associated with the things I like. After all, it’s always good to have more skills.

The more you know, the more you will want to treat the things you’re most interested in with the greatest detail of effort and professionalism, as well as open explore new possibilities. Even if one day I am no longer a “popular celebrity”, I will still find a place for myself in this world. I can also take a step back behind the scenes and lead the life that I want to live. I feel that this defines a person’s values and worth. With such skills and confidence I feel that I can continue to navigate on this path towards the unknown. This is probably why I don’t get anxious too easily too.

So you see, it’s your interests that will carry you along to further places. These interests are a part of life. Your life is still in your hands, you have to take full control of it. Do the things that you want to do, let the things you truly believe in lead your way. This is what matters the most.

So if you ask what I’m chasing, I’ll tell you that I’m chasing the lifelong mindset of non-stop improvement.

I constantly feel as if I’m in the middle of the ocean, not knowing when deadly waves will arrive.

30 is just a number

Actually I don’t think that just because I’m turning 30, I’ve matured a great deal. There are many stages in life from birth till now that have made me grow. Perhaps every two years I’ll encounter a somewhat major life problem or unforeseen circumstance.

I constantly feel as if I’m in the middle of the ocean, not knowing when deadly waves will arrive, nor knowing when it will turn calm and tranquil. Perhaps in the blink of an eye the waves become rough and choppy at night, and the next moment at dawn the skies are clear. This is already the norm in my life.

As a result, this cultivated my mindset from very early on in life. My moods wouldn’t fluctuate that much, perhaps starting around 20 years old I was already pretty calm and stable. It also wasn’t because I was at this age that I began to treasure time even more and work extremely hard, as I had always put in so much effort all this while.

30 years of age is just a number. I’ll tell myself, I’m already 30 years old, I have to be more stable. But in fact, I did not define what I wanted to do in certain stages of my life merely because I reached a specific age. I feel that I shouldn’t be affected by a “midlife crisis”. At age 30, it’s still early, after living for another 10 years it probably won’t be considered middle aged. Even at that age, one should not use terms such as middle aged, youth, elderly, young person and such to define the stages in your life.

You should define what you want to do at each stage in life. Continue doing what you want to do according to your own pace and you will be fine. As for the things beyond our control - I used to dream of being a professional basketball player, but due to an injury it was not possible. Let it go if it can’t work out, there will always be regrets in life.

Gains and losses, strengths and weaknesses are all often experienced in life. Missing something or messing it up it also part of life. When life isn’t perfect, you don’t have to beat yourself up over it. Because when you begin to do so, your whole system may break down and you won’t be able to efficiently think of ways to solve the problem, and things may end up spiralling downwards.

If it’s not done well, then continue to try, or switch to an alternate route. Don’t rashly choose to berate yourself.

This isn’t vanity or arrogance, but a form of self-awareness. If you wish to lead a happier life, you must possess a sense of self-awareness. No matter where you go, you have to stand behind yourself with utmost support, and be your number one fan. You have to say out with confidence: I think I’m still not bad.

Actually, I feel that during this stage in life, I am most curious about the things that I can’t do well. The more I can’t do something well, the harder I want to work on it. Once I’ve accomplished it through further determination and actions, I have once again levelled up.

But before that, I definitely have to be interested in the task. If it’s something I don’t like, no matter how good it is, I won’t be envious of it.

This is a form of respect towards myself. Life is short, we shouldn’t make do with too many compromises, nor should we waste it.

No matter how good an era is, if you’re not in it, it can’t be considered good. An era that doesn’t include you is meaningless.

There are blazing flames in my heart

There are some people who may think that since debut I was a super idol, a big celebrity that’s worlds apart from my peers. But that’s not the case, my personal life isn’t too different from other young people. I enjoy going out on my own, without a driver, bodyguard or babysitter… and I’ll also go out with non-industry friends to shop, eat, and play basketball. I was able to lead the life that everyone had, there was just a little gap due to my career.

Setting aside career, I am someone who is very close to the era of 90s kids.

I feel that this is a very good era, of course, it’s not because this era is a certain way that makes it good or not. I believe that: As long as it’s an era that I exist in, it’s a good era. No matter how good an era is, if you’re not in it, it can’t be considered good. An era that doesn’t include you is meaningless.

Obviously, I still maintain this mindset with blazing flames in my heart. I still believe I’m a simple and pure person, otherwise I won’t be racing cars at this age all of a sudden.

However there are many ways to define “pure”, and many people believe that when a person is said to be pure, it’s because they are good - have not encountered much, is a good boy, a great kid - then I’m obviously not someone who appears to be one.

But I believe that the meaning of pureness extends beyond this.

True pureness exists within your heart, it’s whether you have undivided focus towards the things that you are passionate about, leaving behind all other reasons, whether you are still able to put in effort into the things you love, whether you are able to understand this world simply, whether you can treat every person you meet with sincerity, and whether you can face the world with a childlike gentleness and curiosity.

We all feel that once we step into the adult world, everything immediately turns boundlessly complex. But true pureness is understanding all of your past experiences. With such events and turbulent times, if you can continue to maintain pureness in your heart, you are pure.

This is the kind of pureness I possess.

Perhaps it’s because my goals in life are constantly changing, and small goals are constantly emerging, so I have always lived a life that’s pulsing with vitality, and my galaxy is still blazing. Perhaps it’s because I have gone through certain experiences, which surprisingly widened my heart.

Looking forward in life, perhaps I may encounter some stress when I reach 40 years of age. But I feel that even if I’m 40, I’ll still be a very cool person, still continue to take part in car racing, and stay immersed in my studio making music. I also think that at that time, I’ll probably slow down my pace in life.

Perhaps I’ll spend more time to really feel this world at present, travel to places I’ve never been before, explore more and see more, discover life, experience life.

I believe that [when I reach] that time I will have an entirely different mindset than what I do now. I’m still nervous now because there are certain aspects that I am lacking in. I’m looking forward to having that mindset.

But right now, at 30 years of age, I’ll take my blazing flames along with me and race forth!

Kris Wu: Music Is My Instinct (VogueME June 2018)
image

As of late, Kris Wu has been preparing for his new album in Los Angeles. He had just completed shooting the MV for his new song <Like That>, which was scheduled to be released on 18 May globally. The female lead for the MV is our cover star, supermodel Stella Maxwell. This album is said to be a milestone in his entertainment career, as well as a highlight of his path of personal development. Compared to the previous two years, the Kris Wu now appears to be even more mature. Kris is fully confident in the album and his heart is more at ease. “I have wanted to release this album for a long time, and have been preparing for two, three years. You know, I’ve been too picky when it comes to choosing the songs, which is why it was dragged on for so long. This whole album is like telling a story, if you listen to the songs in order, you will truly understand what kind of person I am.” Kris revealed that when he entered the industry, he was working hard towards an international audience, and he hoped that his works would be able to gain global recognition. Right now, he has fans worldwide. In 2017, the song <Deserve> which he collaborated with Travis Scott on, achieved outstanding results in the United States.

With regards to the new album, Kris expressed: “The music world established in this album is a complete representation of myself. It encompasses Urban, Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B and many other elements of different genres. There are even some songs which combine Chinese pop melodies and rap together. I hope that the music I make will be able to attract listeners in China as well as a global audience too. We’re working hard at trying out some very cool stuff!”

Be it in China or overseas, in this era of social media, stars are increasingly portraying a more realistic side to themselves. Perhaps this is not enough to show Kris Wu’s future direction, but he has clearly expressed: “I hate having to put on a celebrity facade all the time, that’s not who I truly am.” Kris’s freedom of self expression is also incorporated into his music making process. “The way I make music is really unique. First, I’ll listen to the beat without any melody. I’ll let the sound engineer play the song, and next I’ll get into the recording studio and write the opening lines of the melody, come up with a rough idea, and then begin to write the lyrics. This is my creative process. This is a natural instinct, the ability to listen to the heart.”

Kris Wu express his admiration towards other musicians without reservations, and looks forward to the day that he will be able to reach their heights through his own hard work. Actually, last year Kris Wu had collaborated with Pharrell Williams on a song, which they even performed together in China. Kris expressed excitedly: “Pharrell and I will have even more collaborations soon. I listened to his songs when I was a teen, and he was the first singer I listened to! Have you heard the song <Frontin’> by him and Jay-Z? Up till now, I still occasionally listen to it!”

This year, one of the movies starring Kris that will be released is the action film <Europe Raiders>. During the filming, he received a great amount of stunt training. He was required to shoot many action scenes, often on wires, and you could imagine how tiring the whole shooting process was. “I feel extremely fortunate to be able to gain so much valuable experiences while filming, but at the same time, I also feel that being able to rest for a little is a good thing too. After all, the career expectancy of an actor is longer than that of a singer. Currently I have not accepted any roles, because I intend to focus on making music.” Kris wants others to recognise himself for who he is, and not an idol that the masses dream of him to be. The best way to express himself, is through music.

“When I am not under the spotlight, I am just an ordinary person.” Kris said. He describes his fashion sense as “very street style, jeans and hoodies, very casual.” Of course, as the global ambassador of Burberry, he will also often wear clothes by the label. “Honestly speaking, I don’t really have many requirements. Yeah… Except for cars.” At the mention of sports cars, his eyes light up – buying cars, talking about cars, his dream car models, getting to know like-minded car enthusiasts, and so on. Speaking of the 2014 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, he could hardly contain himself. “This car’s doors are scissor doors! The price is about $500,000 USD. It’s way too expensive!” Kris said. “ Since young I was really into cars, but at that time I didn’t have the money to buy them. Right now I do, so practically every day I’ll go to car dealers to do all kinda of adjustments and modifications, which I enjoy!”

Kris Wu owns cars in both Beijing and Los Angeles, but he does not drive in China. “If I go out and drive, I’ll be surrounded.” In the United States, the amount of people who recognise him is fewer. “This really suits me, and lets me return to (a more down-to-earth) reality. I’m a responsible driver, I won’t seek the thrill of speeding. I know how to appreciate the genuine value and charm of a sports car, it’s like buying a piece of art, I don’t buy cars just for the sake of showing off.”

“In places where people don’t know me, I enjoy participating in events with other car enthusiasts, which is really interesting. In fact, I secretly follow the news that they post on Instagram, meet up at the venue with other car owners, and talk with them about topics related to cars… Over there, I feel like I’m an ordinary person.” As such, a balance is achieved. Be it his personal life or driving on the road, just like laid back Los Angeles today, Kris Wu was satisfied and also hoped that things could slow down and develop steadily. As for his entertainment career, he is ready to blast off, all set to charge ahead at full speed.

–Bonus–

Vogue Me and Kris Wu seem to be fated to meet in Los Angeles. Here, he would radiate a type of coolness that is unlike ordinary days. Although Stella Maxwell was shot first, Kris arrived an hour ahead of schedule and displayed a completely good natured and cute side of him. Of course from time to time, our talented photographer was able to capture his handsome moments, and even Stella praised him: “Kris is too cool, no wonder he’s a star, I’ve actually even heard of him before. If there’s the chance to, I would really want to work with him again!”

《想你》Miss You

Missing, missing, missing you
These hazy memories
Looking, looking, looking at you
The secret stored in my heart
I’m waiting, waiting, waiting for you
I wanna be with you
It’s you, you, yes it’s you
I remember your aura

Looking at your photos
Don’t know how much time has passed
What should I use to express
Some things can never be changed
A promise that was broken
A world that has left me
A love that was never realised
Fear that clouded my vision
I want to remember everything about you

In the eyes of others, we’re so close
Afraid that there’s not enough time for some people, some things
Some feelings, some words couldn’t be expressed right
But those are already things of the past
I still wish to be by your side
Not knowing when this late autumn will end
Will I be able to go on with you
Can’t put aside this confusion in my heart
Just like your favourite sneakers
Can’t forget the promise you made
How many days and nights have passed
I’m missing, I’m missing you right now
Not used to being without you
I wish, I only wish to hug you
You’re my only one

This relationship between you and I
I asked if you’d agree
Across the vast distance
I’m crazy for you, can’t give you up
You and I, we’re back where we started
Why do you always run away
Even if the world is full of distrust
But I only care about you, just wanna be with you

Missing, missing, missing you
These hazy memories
Looking, looking, looking at you
The secret stored in my heart
I’m waiting, waiting, waiting for you
I wanna be with you
It’s you, you, yes it’s you
I remember your aura

Time goes on
Ticking by
Some feelings
You repress them
Those who know how to love
Are even more

Who’s this outcome for
That parting sentence
My never ending train of thought
When I look back, will you still be there

Who’s willing to be humbled in love
Circling around you
Not intending to deceive you
For you, I can wax poetic
For you, I can wear myself out
I’m addicted to you, yet afraid you’ll get hurt
Not giving up some things, even if they’re hopeless
Choosing such topics, just to make you happy
Even despite the heavy rain
I’ll be like a fearless shark, protecting you
I don’t think I can be without you
I can’t take it
I want, I just want to be with you
Till the end
Can’t control my emotions
Express my words
Occasionally I want to tell you
There’s someone who’s really missing you
Can’t control my emotions
Express my words
Love is like a movie
Don’t put me in the background
Put me in the background

This relationship between you and I
I asked if you’d agree
Across the vast distance
I’m crazy for you, can’t give you up
You and I, we’re back where we started
Why do you always run away
Even if the world is full of distrust

But I only care about you, only wanna be with you
Missing, missing, missing you
These hazy memories
Looking, looking, looking at you
The secret stored in my heart
I’m waiting, waiting, waiting for you
I wanna be with you
It’s you, you, yes it’s you
I remember your aura

Kris Wu: Hip-hop is my attitude (BAZAAR November 2017)
image

Hip-hop soul
Styled as a garage, the photography studio had the metal look of “The Rap of China” recording set. Kris Wu and his friends arrived fully dressed in dark glasses, leather and fur, gleaming accessories and hair styled in place. A still capture of them would have completely looked like a poster for a mafia movie.

Stern browed and bright eyed; tall, stately and handsome - This was what Guan Hu described Kris Wu to be during the first time he saw him, and was probably the majority of people’s first impressions of him as well. Until he is seated in front of you, very focused and good-tempered even during introductions where it was not necessary to actually answer any of the questions, patiently waiting for you to explain for an entire three minutes, then at that moment you would be able to feel this boy’s liveliness and cuteness.

“Do rappers all dress like this?”
While stroking his bracelet, he would begin to explain the origin of hip-hop to you: “Because the history of hip-hop was such - In the past, African Americans led a hard life, and had big hopes of money, so when they gained fame they liked to wear gold accessories to show that they earned money. Gradually this became something symbolic, including dark glasses, they represented a certain style which gave off the feeling that one was very cool. But at present, hip-hop fashion is different from that of the past. It is not only limited to baggy clothing, but also includes some high street fashion as well as athletic wear and classic styles mixed together to create a hip-hop look. However, no matter how the trends on appearance change, as a street culture which conveys freedom and an attitude of individuality, the spirit and soul of hip-hop will remain the same.”

image

The most important thing is doing what you love
After completing all of <The Rap of China> schedules, Kris Wu placed his work focus on creating his own new music. He has always created the newest hip-hop music, and openly expressed his desire to promote hip-hop. Like his song <6> which was released in July, its completely done in a international style with speedy Hi-Hats, various sound effects with the 808 drum machine, the combination of all these elements resulting in a multi-layered tune. He is willing to do such an experiment, to mix the most trendy global hip-hop music elements together with Chinese rap. He believes that currently, as hip-hop gets more popular, there will be even more of the public that will get to know and love hip-hop. He also hopes that one day in the future, Chinese hip-hop will make it big globally.

In the past, Kris Wu wanted to be a professional basketball player, but because of various reasons, his dream could not be accomplished, which became something he obsessed over. So right now with even more options today, Kris Wu’s life motto is “Follow my heart”, do the things that you love till the very end, so that you won’t leave behind any regrets.

image

When many people watch <The Rap of China>, they would notice that you are not an idol with a hip hop label, yet you’ve said that you’re someone with a hip hop soul. At what age were you really sure that this was your favourite genre of music?
I began listening to hip hop music when I was about 11, 12 years old. It was because I liked basketball when I was younger, and my idols such as Kobe were all African Americans, and also hip hop music was played during the NBA tournaments, so since young this was something I constantly heard. After entering the industry I had a growing realisation that since I was making music, why not make music that I loved?

Previously, (before <The Rap of China>) you didn’t have many close interactions with the local Chinese hip hop contestants, but after recording this show, were there any of their music works, skills or ideas that surprised you?
There are definitely surprises, when it comes to rapping, the way the lyrics are conveyed, including content of lyrics, and language are all very important. So when the language is very different, the whole context would be very different as well, thus even if you sing a song of the same gene, for example Trap which is very popular now, after singing it won’t feel the same. But after this competition, I also found out that many contestants like retro styles such as Old School, and many people like to rap very fast as well. This is something which is very meaningful, because overseas, such elements have been used by many people for years. And right now for the new wave of music, it’s more focused on the  rhythm, including the use of catchy phrases and rhyming words. Before, everyone loved to write four-bar music that was fully filled with lyrics, which made it sound very outstanding, but actually you wouldn’t be able to understand what was being rapped. So right now, others are making music with elements that aren’t as tightly packed together. Actually if you listen to hip-hop it’s different every year, there will be different trends each year. So I feel that for this aspect, we can do even better, and it will definitely become even better as well.

image

At this point in time, is there any point music-wise which you really want yourself to improve on?
I feel that all this while my standards for myself are especially strict. In all my works that I do, I always give my 100% effort. Just like we should never stop learning, when it comes to music it’s also something that has no limits. There will always be ways to do it better, and there will always be new stuff coming out. I hope to be a pioneer in creating the direction and trends of music, this is something which I’ve been doing continuously as well.

From the start of the show till the end, it has garnered a large scale interest towards hip-hop. This is the outcome you hoped to see, right?
Of course, I’m really happy about it. But on the flip side, I also hope that everyone will not overly commercialise hip-hop music and culture. This is my only concern, because I know that in China when something gains popularity, everyone would embrace it. (For example having thoughts such as) I want to sign on hip-hop singers, I want to start a company, or I want to become a hip-hop singer. But when something develops at a overly speedy rate, there will definitely be lots of loopholes and issues with small details that will arise, that would have a negative impact later on. So I hope that everyone can slowly go along, with patience, step by step. Give this genre of music and culture a good time frame for growth. Of course, proper guidance from the media and professional platforms would be needed as well.

KRIS IN MY EYES

CHEN WEI (Producer of <The Rap of China>)
When the choice to make <The Rap of China> had been made, Kris Wu was the first producer to be chosen. This wasn’t just because he would be able to raise viewership ratings, but it was because he really understood and was passionate about hip-hop.  The process of inviting him on the show went really smoothly, and we were only able to do so because this was something that he was most excited about. Earlier on there were people who doubted him, but from the start I was never worried. Based on his attitude and knowledge towards music, I felt that he would definitely be able to appreciate this. But after the program recording began, I was yet again shocked by him, as I didn’t expect him to be so professional. If I were to evaluate his performance on the show, I would give a perfect score. For the second season, I hope that he can have even more fun on the show. I know that he would also really want to get to know the contestants, to create even better, even newer hip-hop music.

CHE CHE (Chief director of <The Rap of China>)
The first time I saw Kris Wu was in his dressing room. I had a deep impression of this incident, he brewed a pot of tea by himself and came over. We then chatted for a long time and the conversation gave me many surprises. My impression of him before was a top-notch idol, but on that day I discovered that he had a deep understanding of the entire hip-hop culture, be it the industry or its origins, and even now the newest current global trends. After working together later on, what surprised me was that he really worked on <The Rap of China> as his own show, expressed himself, and was totally immersed and focused on it, completely exceeding my expectations. We feel that amongst the three groups of producers, Kris Wu represents the power of youth, because he has a great influence on trends, but what makes him even more outstanding is that he is able to introduce even more global views, what he values and is doing now is at the forefront of global music trends.

MC JIN
Before getting to know Kris Wu, I didn’t really think much about him, but I knew that he debuted in a Korean group. That was in a highly competitive environment, where everyone had to work extremely hard in order to stand out. Such a background made me feel that he wasn’t a very simple young person. I also knew that he was very popular, but what I wanted to know was, was he really someone who genuinely made music? After getting to know him much better, I sincerely admired him, because I was able to see his attitude in doing things.

During the time I was with Kris Wu, what I found the most unforgettable was when I wanted to make my own song. When I told him about this, he offered to help me, and I thought he was just saying it casually. I thought that it would be really complicated to meet up with him, would I have to get in touch with his manager first? Did I have to sign a contract and so on> But there was no such thing, it turned out to be really easy. The both of us happened to be in Los Angeles during a period of time, and we completed it together. Our goal was unanimous and simple, to make this song the best it could be. It was a time where we genuinely immersed ourselves in making music. His attitude and initiative were a huge encouragement to me.

JONY J
Before the show I didn’t have a good understanding of Kris Wu. I only knew that he was a handsome guy who knew how to sing and dance, and an artiste who was extremely popular. After getting to know him, especially in the 60 Seconds round, I thought he was a very interesting person when I saw him in the second set. I thought he was a honest and frank guy, who said what he wanted to, and in this aspect was very genuine. Actually coming on to this show, the pressure and burden of expectations he had to bear was greater than the other two groups of producers, because many people were doubtful of him. In the eyes of most of the underground rappers, they thought that he was entering a culture that he wasn’t familiar with, and he stood out like a misfit. Later on I realised that he got into hip-hop even earlier, and made even more fresh music. He used his professionalism to prove himself, which is his strongest point. The best thing about participating in the show was that you could view it from the sidelines, be it producers or other rappers, every person has different strong points, which you do not possess.

Kris’s assurance towards a girl concerned with losing weight to achieve thinness

<72 Floors of Mystery>

Girl: This is my concern. As of late I’ve been trying to lose weight to get thin. But really crave pancakes, cakes, hot pot, egg waffles. What should I do? It’s really frustrating. Dieting is too hard.

Kris: This question troubles me too!

Girl: I think it’s really hard, I really love eating all kinds of delicious food, but at the same time I also want to become thin.

Kris: That’s right. (That you have a cute appearance) You’re perfect, really perfect. Right now I’ll explain in detail my viewpoint as a guy, towards this matter. First of all I don’t think that you’re fat at all. Secondly, if you insist on saying that you are fat, at the most I will say you are just chubby. Have you ever heard that being chubby is the best?

Girl: Heard of it

Kris: Have you heard it before? There’s such a saying, right.

Girl: Yes

Kris: What I said has meaning, right. I’m telling you, honestly, if you say that you want to lose weight due to health reasons, I will strongly support you. And you look really healthy. So there’s no need at all. So long as your weight is not affecting your health, you shouldn’t worry too much about these things. Yes, (being able to eat is a blessing). As long as you are happy, all is well. Wishing you happiness always.

Lullaby - Kris Wu/Kevin Shin
Written and Produced by:Kris Wu/Kevin Shin

KEVIN:
Boy we made it now we on it
Think about that time we grindin uh
Nothing’s changed since that night we pieced up lullaby
06 now add a 1 to that
Ten years deep and we still on it
Like we figured look who left on top the two of us
Could you imagine otherwise
All that talk about that life we made it come alive
No regrets or doubts
Once we say we say we do
Now the world behind our views
Seeing the bigger picture man
I knew the end it be the two

KRIS:
Ye
End will be the two
You know we got the views
I need some real reviews
Tell me the truth what else I gotta do
Don’t wanna be stayin in the shadow rear mirror view
别告诉我你想要的想做的想说的
Don’t tell me what you want, what you wanna do, what you wanna say
我在乎我想要的想做的想得到的
I only care about what I want, what I wanna do, what I wanna get
我活着就是为了看看天有多高
I only live to see the sky’s limit
Cause we got the sauce and we started from the bottom
Right about now
I’ll smile don’t wanna see u cry
Just sing me a lullaby
I’ll cry for u to see ur smile
This will be my lullaby
I’ll smile don’t wanna see u cry
Just sing me a lullaby
I’ll cry for u to see ur smile
This will be my lullaby
他们说我们其实都是一样的
They said we’re all the same
面对家人我们表现都是叛逆的
We’re all rebellious towards family
只有当我真正的明白
Only when I genuinely understood
你的付出全都是为了我将来
Everything you sacrificed was for my future
其实我一直都想成为一个good boy
Actually I’ve always wanted to be a good boy
有时不敢回家是因为害怕
At times I didn’t go home because I was afraid
我们的争吵会持续蔓延
That our fights would prolong, worsen
我也害怕有天看你白发苍苍
I’m also afraid that one day I’ll see you, white-haired
对着我微笑的脸no
Smiling at me, no

KEVIN:
Didn’t think a chimney would get me so deep run and chasin’
What seem to be fantasies ain’t wasted
Look at time fly by tick the clock counter-wise
Now is just a moment caught picture perfect god
Man patience u said was a virtue
Maybe that’s why the fire never dimmed and pursued
Into something even God himself couldn’t presume
But thanks to you I stand here the dream continues

KRIS:
I’ll smile don’t wanna see u cry
Just sing me a lullaby
I’ll cry for u to see ur smile
This will be my lullaby
I’ll smile don’t wanna see u cry
Just sing me a lullaby
I’ll cry for u to see ur smile
This will be my lullaby
I’ll smile don’t wanna see u cry
Just sing me a lullaby
I’ll cry for u to see ur smile
This will be my lullaby
I’ll smile don’t wanna see u cry
Just sing me a lullaby
I’ll cry for u to see ur smile
This will be my lullaby
